ACCA (the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants), IFAC (the International Federation of Accountants) and CA ANZ (the Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand) jointly published the first ever in-depth study of people’s views and who they trust on international taxation across all of the G20 Nations that gathered the contributions of over 7,600 people across the G20 countries.
The results indicate that the public trusts professional accountants, but they do not trust politicians when it comes to taxation and that there is the need for a “more coherent and more effective international tax system fit for the 21st century”.
There are several lines of interest in this study that shapes out the most salient concerns today for the general public: the degree of trust in professional accountants when it comes to the taxation systems, how much professional accountants can contribute to a more effective taxation system, the degree of distrust in politicians, media and business leaders, the need to strike a balance regarding high income earners, average and low income earners.
A summary of the findings can be viewed here, together with the complete study that can be downloaded in electronic format.
